Our Story

Building Better Births was founded by Ashley-Nicole Grosse, a mother of four and the Executive Director of the organization. After experiencing both home and hospital births, Ashley-Nicole witnessed firsthand the gaps in education, support, and cultural understanding that so many families face.
Her journey—combined with years of advocacy, community building, and maternal health innovation—sparked a simple but urgent mission: to make sure no mother has to navigate pregnancy and birth without knowledge, dignity, and support.

Who We Are

Building Better Births is more than an organization — it’s an initiative.
We exist because the U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed nations, and too many women, especially Black and Brown mothers, are left without the education, access, or dignity they deserve. We believe this is unacceptable — and preventable.
Led by Ashley-Nicole Grosse, a mother of four and the Executive Director of the organization. After experiencing both home and hospital births, Ashley-Nicole witnessed firsthand the gaps in education, support, and cultural understanding that so many families face.
We are guided by a network of birth workers, educators, and advocates, all united in providing families what they need most: knowledge, access, and equity.”

When we say “Building Better Births,” we mean it — creating content, tools, and partnerships that ensure every family, regardless of race or income, has the support they need from fertility to postpartum.

We are educators, practitioners, mothers, and allies. Together, we are shaping an initiative that will transform maternal health for generations to come.
